The Denial of Genocide in Auschwitz
The negation of the crime of genocide, which is becoming increasingly widespread, reaches back to wartime. Well aware of the criminal nature of the concentration camps, the perpetrators falsified documents connected with killing, and removed the evidence of crime. The contemporary deniers of genocide carry on these practices. This lecture covers the methods of genocide denial, from statements and protestations from the perpetrators to so-called “scientific” studies involving chemical tests for the presence of Zyklon B gas in the walls of the gas chambers (the “Leuchter Report” and others). The lecturer concludes his treatment of the subject by reviewing the legal status of genocide denial in various countries and analyzing the trials of deniers in Poland and other countries. Form: lecture, illustrated with documents and photos Audiences: Museum guides, intermediate- and secondary-school students, university students, teachers, educators. Languages: Polish, English Lecturer: Franciszek Piper, Ph.D.
